40 FAST MOUSE TRAP CAR FACTS

  1. larger wheels equals further distance per rotation of the axel.
  2. a nail through the axel is a good hook for the string.
  3. coat hangers are a cheap and effective lever arm.
  4. use light materials.
  5. construct your car to be aerodynamic
  6. a larger axel means more rotations of the outer wheel.
  7. a mousetrap near the back will give your car more power.
  8. a mousetrap near the front will give your car more distance gone.
  9. graphite can be used to lubricate the wood.
  10. polyurothane can be used to lubricate the wood.
  11. to decrease friction, use a plastic straw around your axel.
  12. metal on metal gives the least friction.
  13. do not let the glue on your wheels rub against the frame.
  14. if you make your car narrow, you do not need a platform for your car to rest on.
  15. after construction, cut off any excess materials for less weight.

  20. if your piece of wood is less than 3/4" thick, becareful to not split the wood with nails as it weakens your structure.

  23. to keep your wheels at 90 degrees, use spacers on either side.
  24. spacers will help keep your wheels from rubbing against the frame.
  25. carpenter's glue is strong with wood against wood.
  26. never use tacky glue or craft glues, they are not normally strong enough to hold together the car.
  27. for extra strength, add duct tape around the part attaching the axel to the wheel.
  28. pliers can bend the end of the coat hanger into a loop to make it easier to attach a string.
  29. use a clamp when hammering the nail through the axel as to not damage the wheels.
  30. do not try to modify the mousetrap spring as you may damage it.
  31. before slotting the coat hanger into the spring, make sure the angle is atleast at 90 degrees.
  32. put tape or a balloon around the edge of the wheel to give it more grip.
  33. use a pencil to rub the graphite on instead of using graphite powder.
  34. becareful not to bend the rear axel as it will cause the wheels to wobble.
  35. if your car must go up a ramp, make sure it has enough torque and power to do so.
  36. pliers can be used to cut the cords and wires.
  37. use a miter saw to cut precise lengths for your frame.
  38. use a drill press for perpendicular holes.
  39. washers can be used as spacers.
  40. use a square to check your angles.
